Cherries splash the cash: Rayan becomes Bournemouth's record signing
Bournemouth have broken their transfer record to sign Brazilian wonderkid Rayan from Vasco da Gama for £24.7m, replacing Manchester City-bound Semenyo.
Bournemouth have smashed their transfer record to bring in Brazilian teenage sensation Rayan from Vasco da Gama, as Andoni Iraola’s side reinvests the Antoine Semenyo windfall.
Record-Breaking Brazilian
The Cherries have splashed £24.7 million (€28m) on the 19-year-old forward, with potential add-ons worth another £5.6 million. This makes Rayan joint-most expensive signing in Bournemouth’s history, alongside Evanilson who arrived from Porto in 2024 for roughly £30 million.
The south coast club needed to find a replacement sharpish after Semenyo legged it to Manchester City for a tidy sum of £72 million. Not bad business that, is it?
Rayan arrives with proper credentials after banging in 14 goals in 34 appearances in Brazil’s top flight last season - impressive numbers for a teenager still learning his trade.
Iraola’s Squad Strengthening
The Spaniard’s recruitment drive hasn’t stopped with Rayan. Bournemouth have also secured Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas on a loan deal until the end of the season, giving them additional options between the sticks.
Mid-Table Comfort
Things are looking relatively rosy for Bournemouth in the Premier League table:
- Currently sitting 13th in the standings
- Ten-point cushion from the relegation zone
- Just seven points away from the European places
With these reinforcements, Iraola will be hoping his side can push on in the second half of the campaign and perhaps make a late charge for those European spots. The acquisition of Rayan represents a significant statement of intent from a club continuing to establish themselves as Premier League mainstays.
