Mastantuono reveals his soft spot for Spanish ham and calls Florentino Pérez "imposing"
Real Madrid's Argentine wonderkid Franco Mastantuono opens up about his personal life, blonde ambitions, and growing confidence under Arbeloa at the Bernabéu.
Young Argentine talent finding his feet in the Spanish capital while dreaming of Champions League glory in the famous white shirt.
The personal side of Madrid’s teenage sensation
Franco Mastantuono, the 18-year-old Argentine who joined Real Madrid last summer from River Plate, has been dishing the dirt on his personal life in a candid interview with DS Sports. The youngster from Azul (Buenos Aires) hasn’t been shy about sharing what makes him tick away from the pitch.
When asked about the imposing figure of Florentino Pérez, Mastantuono summed up the Real Madrid president with a single word: “imposing” - hardly surprising for a teenager in the presence of one of football’s most powerful figures.
The lad’s clearly adapting well to Spanish culture too, naming “cured ham and potato omelette” as his favourite Spanish dishes. He’s also revealed himself as a fan of legendary Spanish singer-songwriter Joaquín Sabina - not your typical teenage music taste, but perhaps showing a maturity beyond his years.
Blonde ambitions and growing confidence
In a lighter moment, Mastantuono discussed his ever-changing appearance, particularly his hair: “I think I’m going to stay blonde… My hair won’t make me play better or worse, but we’re in a good moment right now so we’ll have to keep it.”
Superstitious about the barnet? He wouldn’t be the first footballer to think his locks were linked to his form on the pitch.
Arbeloa’s trust paying dividends
On the football front, the youngster was full of praise for the confidence being shown in him by his coaches:
- Credits Álvaro Arbeloa and his technical staff for giving him confidence
- Feels he’s playing more freely as a result
- Also expressed gratitude to Xabi Alonso for believing in him
“Álvaro Arbeloa and his entire technical staff give me a lot of confidence. That’s the main thing for a player,” he explained, clearly feeling more settled at the Bernabéu as time goes on.
With Champions League dreams in his sights and growing confidence under his belt, this Argentine diamond might soon be the real dog’s dinner in Madrid’s star-studded squad.
