Bernal pledges future to Barça: 'This is my club and my life'
Barcelona's young midfielder Marc Bernal confirms his commitment to stay at Camp Nou despite transfer speculation, as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury.
Young midfielder gradually working his way back from devastating knee injury that sidelined him for an entire season, with Hansi Flick carefully managing his minutes.
Staying put at Camp Nou
Despite January transfer window speculation linking him with a move away from Barcelona to gain more playing time, Marc Bernal has firmly committed his future to the Catalan giants.
“This is my club and my life,” the young midfielder declared, putting to bed any rumours about a potential exit. Girona had reportedly shown interest in securing his services, but Flick was adamant about keeping the talented youngster at the club.
Increasing involvement
Bernal’s integration back into the first team has been carefully managed following his lengthy absence:
- Featured in 15 of Barcelona’s 34 matches this season
- Earned minutes in three consecutive games (Slavia Prague, Oviedo, Copenhagen)
- Played the entire second half against Copenhagen after Eric García was forced off with a head injury
- Showed promising signs with 25 completed passes and a shot on target against Copenhagen
- Yet to complete a full 90 minutes, with his longest appearance coming against Racing Santander
Flick’s assessment
The German tactician has been measured in his praise for the returning midfielder, acknowledging both his qualities and areas for improvement.
“He’s played a fantastic match,” Flick said after the Copenhagen game. “He has potential to improve. We know he has very good technique and how he can control the game. He’s done very well. Physically, he has to improve.”
Champions League ambitions
Bernal expressed satisfaction with Barcelona securing qualification among the top eight teams in the Champions League, a competition they’re determined to win. He also appreciated the playing time that’s helping his recovery process.
The midfielder explained how Flick had instructed the team to circulate the ball against Copenhagen’s defensive setup, knowing spaces would eventually appear as they maintained possession.
For a player who spent last season in Barney Rubble, his return to form couldn’t come at a better time as Barcelona push for silverware on multiple fronts.
