García calls for calm at Las Palmas amid poor run: 'Can't get caught in results trap'
Las Palmas boss Luis García remains philosophical despite collecting just one point from their last three matches, urging focus on process over immediate results.
Las Palmas manager Luis García is keeping his chin up despite the Canary Islanders suffering their worst run of form this season, with just a solitary point from their last three outings.
Staying the course
While the second half of the campaign hasn’t kicked off as planned, García is adamant that the club shouldn’t panic, with Las Palmas still well-positioned near the upper reaches of the table.
“We cannot change our direction based on one result, or two, or three,” García insisted, emphasizing his belief in the longer-term project rather than knee-jerking to recent disappointments.
The gaffer’s philosophy is crystal clear – he won’t be drawn into what he calls “resultadismo” (results-obsession), preferring instead to trust the process that has served the team well thus far.
Tactical tweaks ahead
Despite his calm exterior, García acknowledges that adjustments are needed to halt the slide:
- The squad has had a “short but productive week” focused on improvements
- Particular emphasis on better field positioning during attacking phases
- Preparation for facing an energetic Real Sociedad B side with pace on the counter
“We need balance and control to prevent them from running at us,” García warned about their upcoming trip to Zubieta.
Star player situation
The boss also addressed the elephant in the room regarding two of the team’s biggest names – Jonathan Viera and Jesé. Recent decisions to bench Jesé and substitute Viera have raised eyebrows among the Las Palmas faithful.
García was quick to downplay any drama: “We need Jonathan just like everyone else – he’s an absolutely crucial player for us.”
As for Jesé, the manager praised the forward’s professionalism: “Jesé is in great form, and we coaches make decisions. I’m pleased because he’s managed to turn around what wasn’t an easy situation, especially considering the media attention he receives.”
With a tricky fixture against Real Sociedad’s B team on the horizon, Las Palmas will be desperate to get back to winning ways and prove their gaffer’s patience is justified.
