Lukovic ends Las Palmas chapter as Preston North End comes calling
Serbian striker Miloš Luković departs Las Palmas after scoring four goals in 17 appearances, with Preston North End securing his services until season's end.
Serbian forward makes Preston switch after being squeezed out of Las Palmas squad despite decent goal return
Miloš Luković has finally closed the book on his Las Palmas adventure, with the Serbian striker heading for new pastures after finding himself surplus to requirements at the Canary Islands outfit.
Brief but productive spell
Despite netting a respectable four goals in 17 appearances for Las Palmas, the young forward has found himself pushed down the pecking order. His contributions weren’t exactly bread and butter for the club, but he showed enough promise to suggest there’s more to come from the Serbia U21 international.
Luković’s goals came against a variety of opposition:
- Córdoba
- Eibar
- Huesca
- Albacete
These strikes actually made him the second-highest scorer in the squad during his time there - not too shabby for a player who’s now been shown the door.
Winter window casualties
The January transfer window has proven to be Luković’s undoing at Las Palmas. A combination of factors conspired against the Serbian:
- Jesé’s return to form
- The signing of Peruvian talent Miyashiro
- The arrival of promising youngster Iker Bravo
With this trio ahead of him, the writing was on the wall for Luković despite his positive contributions. The club clearly rates him as a professional and dressing room presence, but couldn’t offer the minutes he needs at this stage of his development.
Championship challenge awaits
After cutting short his loan spell with Las Palmas, Luković won’t be short of game time in his next adventure. Preston North End have officially announced the Serbia U21 international will be joining their ranks until the end of the season.
The move to the English Championship presents a different type of challenge for the forward - trading Spanish technical football for the rough and tumble of England’s second tier. Many a promising talent has found their feet in the Championship, and Preston will be hoping Luković can bring his goal-scoring instincts to Deepdale.
