Serpeta ships off to Unionistas as Castellón continue winter clear-out
CD Castellón winger Sergio 'Serpeta' Sanchis joins Unionistas on loan after limited opportunities since his summer arrival from Yeclano.
Castellón’s winter exodus continues as they’ve sent yet another player packing, with winger Sergio Sanchis – known by his nickname ‘Serpeta’ – heading to Unionistas on loan for the remainder of the season.
Limited Impact at Castellón
The 25-year-old Valencia native only arrived at Castellón last summer from Yeclano but has struggled to make his mark at the club. His stint with the albinegra has been proper disappointing, managing just:
- 3 appearances in the league
- 1 Copa del Rey appearance (his only start)
- An unfortunate injury after just 3 minutes in that cup match against Antoniano
After recovering from that injury blow, Serpeta couldn’t find his way back into the manager’s plans, leaving him on the outside looking in.
Part of a Larger Clearout
Serpeta becomes the fourth player to leave Castellón during this January transfer window, joining:
- Óscar Gil
- Nick Markanich
- Kenneth Mamah
On the incoming front, Castellón have strengthened with two additions so far:
- Winger Raúl Sánchez
- Forward Álvaro García
New Challenge in Primera RFEF
The move to Unionistas gives Serpeta a chance to get some much-needed playing time in Spain’s third tier. Unionistas currently compete in Group 1 of Primera RFEF, where the winger will hope to find his feet and show what he can do with regular minutes.
For a player who’s barely had a kick at Castellón, this loan could be just what the doctor ordered. Sometimes you need to take a step back to move forward, as they say down the old Kent Road.
