Amrabat kicks off recovery in Holland after ankle surgery
Betis midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has begun his rehabilitation process in the Netherlands following ankle surgery, with a potential return in 4-6 weeks.
Betis midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is taking his first steps toward recovery in the Netherlands after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome right ankle.
Dutch rehabilitation underway
The Moroccan international went under the knife on Tuesday in Amsterdam, where Dr. Gino Kerkhoffs performed a surgical clean-up on an ankle that’s been giving him gyp since late November. Amrabat picked up the knock in a nasty collision with teammate Isco during Betis’ Europa League clash with Utrecht at La Cartuja.
True to his professional nature, Amrabat hasn’t wasted any time getting stuck into his rehab program. The midfielder has already shared videos on his social media profiles showing him grafting away in the gym, with his recently operated ankle still sporting protective gear.
Return timeline
While the club’s medical statement confirmed Amrabat will complete “an initial post-surgical recovery phase in Holland before continuing his rehabilitation in Seville,” Betis have been tight-lipped about specific return dates.
However, if everything goes according to plan, the word on the street suggests we could see him back in action within four to six weeks. The Verdiblancos are taking a cautious approach with both Amrabat and Isco, refusing to rush either player back before they’re fully fit and firing.
Betis injury round-up
The treatment room at Betis is looking rather crowded at the moment:
- Isco remains sidelined after his operation in late December with no fixed return date
- Cucho Hernández could make his comeback next Thursday in the Copa clash against Atlético Madrid
- Junior and Riquelme are progressing in their recovery programs, with the latter “counting the days” until his return
- Bellerín needs another 2-3 weeks before he’ll be available
- Lo Celso has undergone comprehensive medical tests and awaits confirmation on the exact nature and timeframe of his injury
