Bachmann exits Deportivo without playing a single minute

Austrian keeper Daniel Bachmann departs Deportivo de La Coruña for family reasons, returning to England with League One's Leyton Orient on loan from Watford.

Austrian goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann has left Deportivo de La Coruña without making a single appearance for the Galician club, bringing an end to his brief and ultimately fruitless spell in Spain.

Brief Deportivo stint ends prematurely

Bachmann, who joined Depor on loan from Watford last summer, became the first Austrian to don the blue and white training kit, but never got the chance to wear it in competitive action. His time at the club was hampered by an injury that kept him sidelined for months.

Even after recovering, the 29-year-old found himself pushed down to third-choice goalkeeper following the January arrival of Álvaro Fernández, effectively ending any hopes of breaking into the first team.

Family comes first

According to club sources, Bachmann’s departure stems from personal family reasons rather than purely footballing considerations. The goalkeeper himself requested the move, and Deportivo placed no obstacles in his way – a touch of class from the Galicians.

The club has publicly thanked Bachmann for his professionalism and friendly attitude during his time in A Coruña, despite never getting the opportunity to showcase his talents on the pitch.

Back to Blighty

Bachmann isn’t heading back to Watford just yet, though. The Austrian stopper will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Leyton Orient in England’s League One, giving him a chance for some much-needed playing time.

The O’s, based in East London, will be hoping Bachmann can help shore up their defence as they battle in the third tier of English football. Meanwhile, Watford retain ownership of the player, with his long-term future still uncertain.

For Deportivo, it’s a case of ‘Bobby Moore’ (for sure) as they continue their push for promotion back to La Liga with one fewer option between the sticks.
