Clerc's trial pays off as veteran left-back signs for Valladolid
The 33-year-old former Elche defender has impressed during his two-week trial and secured a contract until the end of the season with the Pucela outfit.
After a successful two-week trial period under manager Tevenet, Real Valladolid have decided to add experienced left-back Clerc to their squad for the remainder of the season.
Trial to contract
The 33-year-old defender had been without a club since last winter’s transfer window following his departure from Elche. After impressing during his trial period, Clerc has signed on a free transfer, bolstering Valladolid’s defensive options as they push on in Segunda División.
The new boy hasn’t had to wait long for his first taste of action either - he’s already been included in the squad for this weekend’s fixture against Córdoba, where he could make his debut in the famous white and violet shirt.
Filling the void
Valladolid’s move for Clerc comes as a direct response to the long-term injury suffered by Guille Bueno, who’s set to be out of action for nearly a year after a nasty knee injury at the start of 2024. Talk about a proper mare for the lad.
With Bueno sidelined, Clerc will now compete for the left-back position with:
- Garriel
- Academy product Hugo San, who’s started recent matches
Vast experience
What Clerc brings to Pucela is bags of experience in Spanish football. The defender has racked up an impressive 338 appearances across La Liga, Segunda División and Copa del Rey during his career.
His CV reads like a proper tour of Spanish football, having previously turned out for:
- Espanyol
- Sabadell
- Girona
- Osasuna
- Levante
- Elche
This wealth of experience should prove valuable to Valladolid as they look to secure their defensive options for the business end of the season.
