Mirandés desperate to restore Anduva fortress in relegation battle
Bottom-placed Mirandés need to rediscover their home form at Anduva if they're to have any chance of a miraculous Segunda División survival.
Rock bottom of Segunda División with just 17 points from 23 games, CD Mirandés face an uphill battle to avoid the drop – and restoring their once-formidable Anduva home fortress looks essential to any survival hopes.
Home sweet home no more
The defeat to Andorra following their exile from Mendizorroza ended a remarkable 470-day unbeaten home run. Before that loss, you’d have to go all the way back to October 5, 2024, when Granada nicked all three points, to find Mirandés’ previous home defeat.
During that stellar run, the Rojillos had built Anduva into a proper Bobby Dazzler of a fortress:
- 14 victories
- 5 draws
- 0 defeats
Compare that to their temporary home in Vitoria (Alavés’ ground) where they managed just 2 wins, 1 draw and 6 defeats from 9 matches. The difference is night and day.
Recent form offers little comfort
Their return to Anduva started promisingly with a decent performance against Almería, though they had to settle for a draw after a controversial penalty allowed Arribas to equalize. Javi Hernández bagged both goals that day, continuing to be their creative spark.
Against Andorra, however, the fortress crumbled. Despite Hernández again getting on the scoresheet, Mirandés paid for their mistakes and lost more than just three points – their aura of home invincibility vanished.
Things went from bad to worse at El Molinón where Sporting Gijón handed them a hammering, though the scoreline was somewhat harsh. Mirandés competed well until Iker Córdoba’s 44th-minute red card changed everything.
Brutal fixture list looms
The schedule offers no respite with three massive tests on the horizon:
- Málaga at home on Monday (currently flying high in the table)
- A trip to face league leaders Racing Santander
- Las Palmas back at Anduva
That’s a proper mountain to climb for a team already on the ropes.
Where hope remains
If there’s any light at the end of the tunnel, it comes in the form of two key players:
- Javi Hernández – the creative maestro operating between the lines
- Carlos Fernández – the team’s top scorer with 8 goals
For Mirandés, salvation starts at home or it doesn’t start at all. Turning Anduva back into a fortress isn’t just about pride anymore – it’s their only viable path to a miraculous escape.
