Pablo Marín pens new Real Sociedad deal to 2029 with eyes on derby glory

The promising La Real midfielder signs contract extension and upgrades from youth team number to first-team squad number 15, hoping to celebrate with derby win.

Young midfielder pledges future to boyhood club while eyeing weekend derby victory as perfect celebration of his new contract.

Contract Extension Details

Real Sociedad have announced Pablo Marín has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Basque club until 2029, extending his previous deal by one additional year.

In a significant status upgrade, Marín will swap his number 28 shirt - typically assigned to reserve team players - for the number 15, officially marking his permanent promotion to the first-team squad despite already being a regular fixture in recent seasons.

Growing Importance at La Real

The Rioja-born midfielder has accumulated an impressive 76 appearances for Real Sociedad across three seasons with the senior side. This campaign alone accounts for 38 of those matches, highlighting how heavily Imanol Alguacil relied on him before his departure.

However, Marín’s playing time has taken a bit of a knock since Matarazzo took the reins:

  • Yet to start a match under the American coach
  • Featured as a substitute in three of five matches under the new gaffer
  • Looking to re-establish himself as a key figure

Derby Celebration on His Mind

“For me, this is a beautiful and special day, because La Real is the club of my life,” Marín explained after putting pen to paper. “I’ve developed here both as a player and as a person. I arrived as a child and now I’m a man.”

With the contract sorted, Marín’s thoughts immediately turned to the perfect way to celebrate - with derby success this weekend. As he put it himself: “It would be really nice to win the derby this weekend.”

The timing couldn’t be better according to the player, who believes the team is hitting form at the perfect moment: “We’re in a good moment, with energy,” he noted, clearly buzzing about his new deal and the chance to mark it with something special against their rivals.

Marín’s journey from academy prospect to established first-teamer hasn’t always been plain sailing, with playing time fluctuating over the years. “There have been periods when I’ve had minutes, others not so much, but I’m always focused on working day by day and being prepared to help however needed,” he added, showing the sort of attitude that’s earned him this new contract.
