Wesley jets into San Sebastian: "Happy for the opportunity to help with goals"
Brazilian striker Wesley Gassova Ribeiro arrives in San Sebastian ahead of loan move from Al-Nassr to Real Sociedad with €12m purchase option.
Real Sociedad’s latest attacking reinforcement has touched down in the Basque Country, ready to bolster Pellegrino Matarazzo’s forward options at a crucial stage of the season.
Brazilian striker Wesley Gassova Ribeiro has arrived in San Sebastian to complete his medical ahead of a loan move from Saudi side Al-Nassr. The deal includes a €12 million purchase option for La Real, giving them flexibility for the future.
First Words as a Txuri-urdin
The Brazilian forward couldn’t hide his excitement upon arrival at his hotel, telling waiting reporters: “I’m very happy for the opportunity. I hope to help with goals and victories.”
Ready for the Basque Derby?
Wesley is expected to begin training at Zubieta tomorrow under Matarazzo’s watchful eye, and could be thrown straight into the deep end this weekend. With Real Sociedad potentially short-handed in attack for Sunday’s massive derby against Athletic Club at San Mamés, the new boy might get an immediate taste of one of Spanish football’s most passionate fixtures.
The timing of his arrival could be absolutely spot on for La Real, who are facing something of an injury crisis up top:
- Take Kubo is already confirmed absent
- Ander Barrenetxea missed training today and remains a doubt
- The club appears hesitant to rely too heavily on Sanse youngsters Job Ochieng and Dani Díaz
Talk about being thrown in at the deep end! If Wesley gets minutes in the derby, he’ll quickly understand what Basque football is all about. Nothing like a baptism of fire to welcome you to Spain, my son.
