Mallorca closing in on Chelsea striker Datro Fofana loan deal
The Spanish side are working to secure the Ivorian forward, currently on loan at Turkish club Karagümrük, before the January transfer window closes.
RCD Mallorca are making a late January push to sign Chelsea striker Datro Fofana on loan, with the club’s executives traveling to London for face-to-face negotiations.
Chelsea Loanee in Demand
The 23-year-old Ivorian forward is currently plying his trade in Turkey with Karagümrük, where he’s been in decent nick, bagging eight goals in 15 appearances across all competitions. Not too shabby for a player who’s struggled to make his mark at Stamford Bridge since joining.
Fofana, who remains under contract with Chelsea until 2029, has caught the eye of several clubs with his performances in the Turkish Süper Lig. According to reports, French outfit Auxerre have also entered the race for his signature, but Mallorca appear to have the upper hand after tabling a more appealing offer to the West London club.
Mallorca’s London Mission
The islanders aren’t messing about in the final days of the transfer window. Their CEO Pablo Ortells and Technical Secretary assistant Aritz Aduriz have been on a proper mission to the Big Smoke, holding meetings with several clubs to strengthen their squad before Friday’s deadline.
It’s clear Mallorca are looking to do some serious business, with:
- Three senior squad spots currently available
- Multiple transfer targets being pursued simultaneously
- Fofana representing just one of several potential deals in the works
Transfer Window Activity
Despite the late flurry of activity, Mallorca’s January business has been relatively quiet until now. Their only addition this window has been winger Justin Kalumba, who was registered with their reserve team rather than taking up one of those vacant first-team slots.
If Mallorca can pull off the Fofana deal, they’ll be adding a physically imposing striker with pace and power to their attacking options – something they’ve been crying out for this season. The next 24 hours will be crucial in determining whether they can get this one over the line.
