Barça snap up Egyptian wonderkid Abdelkarim on loan deal
Barcelona have secured promising Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim on loan from Al-Ahly, with a potential permanent move in the pipeline for the youngster.
Barcelona have finally got their man after weeks of negotiations with Egyptian side Al-Ahly, bringing in highly-rated youngster Hamza Abdelkarim on loan with an option to buy.
Deal Details
The Catalan giants have been locked in talks with Al-Ahly for several weeks, with both clubs finally reaching an agreement for the talented Egyptian forward. Barcelona will have the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season for a fee of €1.5 million plus variables if he impresses during his loan spell.
Rather than joining the first team squad, Abdelkarim will initially link up with Barcelona’s B team, where he’ll be under the watchful eye of manager Deco Belletti until the end of the campaign. The club will then make a decision on whether to trigger the purchase option and potentially promote him to the senior setup.
Egyptian Promise
Abdelkarim is widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Egyptian football, with Barcelona clearly seeing enough potential to bring him to Catalonia despite his relative inexperience at the top level.
The move represents Barcelona’s continued focus on recruiting young talent with high ceilings, particularly as they navigate their well-documented financial constraints. It’s a proper bargain if the youngster lives up to the hype.
Double Swoop for B Team
The Egyptian isn’t the only reinforcement for Barcelona’s second string, as they’ve also secured the signature of Juwensley Onstein from Belgian side Genk. As previously reported by MARCA’s Matteo Moretto, the clubs reached an agreement for Onstein’s transfer, with the player signing a contract until 2028 with an option for an additional year.
These moves show Barcelona’s commitment to strengthening their youth ranks - bread and butter for a club whose identity is so closely tied to developing talent from within.
