Bordalás throws down gauntlet to Getafe board amid fan unrest
After a dismal run of form and growing fan discontent, Getafe boss José Bordalás has suggested the club knows what to do if they see him as 'the problem'.
Getafe manager José Bordalás has laid his cards on the table following another disappointing result, hinting he’d be willing to fall on his sword if the club hierarchy sees him as the source of their woes.
Pressure mounting at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez
The South Madrid outfit are going through a proper mare at the moment, with just three points collected from their last 24 available in La Liga. Saturday’s goalless stalemate against Celta Vigo did little to ease the tension, with the home support making their feelings crystal clear as the final whistle approached.
Bordalás, who’s been at the club for what feels like donkey’s years across his two spells, didn’t mince his words in the post-match presser when addressing the fan backlash.
“If the club considers that I’m the problem, they already know what they have to do,” he stated bluntly, reminding everyone of his commitment to the Azulones.
Performance analysis
The match itself was about as exciting as watching paint dry:
- Strong first half from Getafe but with the familiar finishing problems
- Celta improved after the break, making it “one half for each team”
- Getafe appeared to fade physically late on
- Players finished “exhausted” according to the gaffer
Transfer window blues
With the January window slamming shut, Bordalás acknowledged the difficulties in strengthening his squad. He mentioned the need for reinforcements, particularly out wide, but seemed resigned to working with limited resources.
“At the end of the market, it’s not simple,” he admitted, hinting at the financial constraints that have seen the squad “weakened a lot” compared to previous seasons.
Looking ahead
Despite the doom and gloom hanging over the Coliseum, Bordalás expressed satisfaction with his players’ effort and commitment. The focus now shifts to their upcoming trip to Vitoria, which he described as “very important and difficult”.
For a bloke who saved Getafe from the Championship not so long ago, it’s a bit rich that he’s now getting stick from the stands. But that’s football for you - what have you done for me lately and all that.
