Bryan Zaragoza Roma-bound as Celta cut short Bayern loan deal
The Spanish winger's inconsistent spell in Vigo comes to an abrupt end with a move to Serie A, while Celta reportedly eye Lazio's Matías Vecino as midfield reinforcement.
Spanish winger Bryan Zaragoza’s Celta Vigo adventure is ending prematurely, with the on-loan Bayern Munich man set to complete a swift move to Roma in Italy’s Serie A.
The Galician club will receive a small compensation fee for terminating the loan agreement early, drawing the curtain on what’s been a rather hit-and-miss spell for the Málaga-born attacker in northwest Spain.
Underwhelming Vigo stint
Despite featuring regularly for Celta since his summer arrival, Zaragoza never quite lived up to the billing that accompanied his move:
- 26 appearances across all competitions
- 1,420 minutes of playing time
- Just 2 goals and 4 assists to show for his efforts
The 22-year-old was brought in to be a difference-maker but struggled to consistently deliver the goods. Celta had already decided against triggering their purchase option due to the significant financial outlay it would’ve required.
Vecino link emerges
While one door closes, another potentially opens. Italian media reports suggest Celta have their eye on experienced Lazio midfielder Matías Vecino as they look to bolster their engine room.
The 34-year-old Uruguay international has seen limited action this season, managing just 657 minutes across 14 appearances in all competitions. His potential arrival would help fill the void left by the January departures of Fran Beltrán and Damián in the central midfield area.
Celta’s brass will be hoping any new additions can help steady the ship as they navigate the choppy waters of the relegation battle. Bit of a mare for young Zaragoza though - from Bayern to Celta to Roma in less than a year. Talk about a continental tour!
