Cumic completes Zaragoza's winter hat-trick of signings
Serbian winger Nikola Cumic joins Real Zaragoza on loan from Rubin Kazan until season's end, becoming their third January addition as they battle relegation.
Real Zaragoza have secured their third winter transfer window signing, adding Serbian winger Nikola Cumic to their ranks alongside earlier arrivals Willy Agada and Rober González.
Serbian speedster arrives on loan
The 27-year-old international arrives on loan from Russian side Rubin Kazan until the end of the season, bringing pace and direct running to both flanks. Zaragoza fans will be hoping he can provide the creative spark they desperately need as they battle to escape the Segunda División relegation zone.
This won’t be Cumic’s first rodeo in Spanish football. The winger previously had a spell with Sporting Gijón during the 2020-21 campaign, though with mixed results. He featured regularly in the first half of that season but found himself warming the bench after the winter break. Despite clocking over 1,000 minutes, his contribution was limited to just a single goal and no assists.
Experienced traveller
Cumic brings a wealth of experience from across European football:
- Previously played for Olympiacos (Greece)
- Stint at Swiss side Lucerne
- Developed at Serbian club Vojvodina
- Made 7 league appearances for Rubin Kazan this season
Desperate for reinforcements
Zaragoza’s transfer business reflects their precarious position, currently sitting second-bottom in the table. Their situation has worsened following a heavy defeat to Albacete and poor performances in their last three matches.
With the transfer window closing tomorrow, the club is still hunting for at least one central defender. They may also be able to register an additional player if LaLiga approves a long-term injury replacement for Paulino.
The arrival of Cumic offers a glimmer of hope for fans of the Aragonese club, who’ve been having a right mare this season. Whether these new signings can turn the tide remains to be seen, but at least they’re having a proper go in the transfer market.
