Maupay in line for Sevilla debut as Almeyda names squad for Mallorca clash
French striker Neal Maupay could make his Sevilla bow in the Balearics, with Alexis Sánchez and Batista Mendy also returning to the matchday squad.
Sevilla’s winter signing Neal Maupay could make his debut this Monday as Matías Almeyda’s side travel to Mallorca looking to improve their away form.
Squad news
Almeyda has named a 23-man travelling party for the trip to Son Moix, with several notable changes to the group that faced Athletic Club last time out.
The headline inclusion is Neal Maupay, Sevilla’s only January reinforcement thus far. The French striker has been training with the first team and appears ready for his first minutes in Nervión colours.
There’s more good news for Sevilla supporters as:
- Alexis Sánchez returns after recovering from his recent discomfort
- Batista Mendy is back after serving his suspension against Athletic
However, it’s not all rosy for the Andalusians. César Azpilicueta, who many expected to make his comeback after participating in several recent training sessions, will have to wait a bit longer. The gaffer’s clearly not taking any risks with the veteran defender who’s suffered consecutive injuries.
Suspensions and absences
Nemanja Gudelj will miss the trip through suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. The Serbian’s absence is particularly notable as he scored the winner in Sevilla’s last victory in Palma back in October 2022.
Academy product Álex Costa also drops out of the squad, joining a lengthy absentee list that includes Azpilicueta, Nianzou, Marcao, Januzaj and Rubén Vargas.
