Valencia 'unlikely' to make more January moves as Gourlay confirms transfer strategy complete
Valencia CEO Ron Gourlay suggests the club has finished its winter business after securing Sadiq, Guido Rodríguez and Unai Núñez without any outgoings.
Valencia’s transfer business appears to be wrapped up for January with CEO Ron Gourlay suggesting it’s “unlikely” the club will make further additions before the window slams shut.
Transfer objectives met
Speaking to Movistar ahead of Valencia’s clash with Real Betis, the Scottish executive confirmed that Los Che have accomplished what they set out to do this winter. The club has already strengthened with three significant arrivals:
- Umar Sadiq
- Guido Rodríguez
- Unai Núñez
What’s particularly interesting is that Valencia haven’t managed to offload any players during this window. This lack of departures has seemingly limited their ability to bring in additional reinforcements, particularly the winger that manager Corberán has reportedly been asking for.
“We set our objectives before the market opened and I believe we’ve met them,” Gourlay explained, while emphasizing that the team’s focus remains on their upcoming fixture.
Last-minute surprises?
When pressed about potential eleventh-hour moves, Gourlay gave the classic football executive’s hedge - never say never, but don’t get your hopes up, mate.
“In football you can never say never, because something can always happen, but it’s unlikely,” he stated, maintaining that Valencia have “achieved their incorporation objectives” for the squad.
Project assessment
Gourlay also took the opportunity to reflect on the club’s broader transition that began last summer. He acknowledged that such processes take time while assuring supporters he understands the expectations at a club of Valencia’s stature.
“Everyone is working hard every day to achieve our objectives and we’ll continue doing so,” Gourlay insisted, offering a positive assessment of the progress made thus far.
For Valencia fans hoping for a surprise deadline day addition - particularly that winger Corberán’s been after - it looks like you might be on a hiding to nothing. The club appears content with their winter business, focusing instead on making the most of their current squad for the remainder of the season.
