Albacete bolster attacking options with Álex Rubio signing

The Manchegan club secures versatile forward Álex Rubio from Villarreal B on a long-term deal until 2030, adding firepower to their Segunda División campaign.

Albacete have moved to strengthen their frontline with the capture of promising attacker Álex Rubio, who joins on a permanent deal from Villarreal.

The 21-year-old Madrid-born forward has put pen to paper on a mammoth contract running until June 2030, representing a significant investment in youth from the Manchegan outfit as they look to secure their Segunda División status.

Rising through the ranks

Rubio’s journey to professional football hasn’t been the straightforward academy-to-first-team path many Spanish talents enjoy. The versatile attacker, who can operate across all three positions in the forward line, began his development in the Fuenlabrada youth system before moving to Real Aranjuez CF for the 2021-22 campaign.

His career trajectory has been steadily climbing through the Spanish football pyramid:

  • Started at CF Fuenlabrada youth teams
  • Played for Real Aranjuez CF (2021-22)
  • Competed for Muleño CF in Tercera RFEF
  • Breakthrough season at Antequera CF (2022-23) scoring 7 goals in 26 matches

Impressing at Villarreal B

Rubio’s performances at Antequera caught the attention of several clubs, but it was the famous Yellow Submarine who secured his services for their B team. The decision proved spot on for both parties, with the youngster absolutely on fire this season.

Before making his move to Albacete, Rubio had already bagged an impressive 8 goals in just 18 appearances for Villarreal’s reserve side, showcasing his clinical finishing and eye for the spectacular.

What he brings to Albacete

The signing addresses Albacete’s need for additional firepower up top. Rubio’s versatility is perhaps his greatest asset - he’s comfortable across the front three positions, giving his manager various tactical options.

At just 21, he represents both an immediate attacking option and a long-term investment, with that whopping eight-year contract suggesting Albacete see him as a proper diamond geezer for their future plans.

This transfer wraps up Albacete’s winter business as they look to push on in the second half of the season with fresh legs up front.
