Albacete bolster midfield with San Bartolomé signing

Víctor San Bartolomé joins Albacete Balompié from Barakaldo CF on a long-term deal until 2028, bringing goalscoring prowess from midfield to the Carlos Belmonte.

Albacete have moved to strengthen their engine room with the capture of Víctor San Bartolomé, a goal-scoring midfielder who’s been making waves in the lower tiers of Spanish football.

Basque talent heads to Carlos Belmonte

The 24-year-old Barakaldo native has penned a lengthy deal with Albacete, committing his future to the club until June 2028. San Bartolomé arrives from his hometown club Barakaldo CF, where he’s been in proper tidy form this season.

What’s caught the eye of the Albacete recruitment team is clearly the lad’s knack for finding the onion bag from midfield positions. He’s notched an impressive seven goals in just 18 appearances for Barakaldo this campaign, building on the six he scored for Real Unión last season.

Football education

San Bartolomé’s football journey has solid foundations:

  • Came through the Athletic Club youth system
  • Made his debut in Spain’s third tier with Athletic’s B team in 2017-18
  • Accumulated 93 official appearances for Athletic’s reserves
  • Spent two seasons at Celta Fortuna (Celta Vigo’s B team), making 40 appearances
  • Represented Real Unión for the 2024-25 season (29 games, 6 goals)
  • Returned to his roots at Barakaldo last summer

What he brings

Albacete are getting themselves a proper box-to-box operator with:

  • Goal threat from midfield (13 goals in the last season and a half)
  • Extensive experience at Spain’s third tier (180 matches)
  • Physical presence in the middle of the park
  • A peak age at 24 with his best years ahead

The Carlos Belmonte faithful will be hoping San Bartolomé can translate his goalscoring form from the lower leagues to Segunda División, as Albacete look to strengthen their options in the middle of the pitch.
