City recall Nypan from Middlesbrough loan spell
Manchester City have terminated Sverre Nypan's loan at Middlesbrough, with the Norwegian wonderkid set to continue his development under Pep Guardiola's watchful eye.
Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan has been recalled from his loan spell at Middlesbrough by Manchester City, with the 19-year-old now set to spend the remainder of the season under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage.
Limited Championship opportunities
The highly-rated midfielder joined the Citizens last summer in a deal worth approximately £15 million from Norwegian outfit Rosenborg. City immediately shipped him out on loan to Championship side Middlesbrough to continue his development, but things haven’t quite gone according to plan in the North East.
Nypan’s stint at the Riverside has been nothing to write home about, with the teenager struggling for regular minutes:
- Just 3 starts all season
- Never completed a full 90 minutes
- Limited impact in the Championship
This lack of playing time has prompted City’s brass to pull the plug on the arrangement and bring the Norwegian talent back into the fold at the Etihad.
European hot prospect
Considered one of Europe’s most promising young talents, Nypan penned a five-year deal with City when he arrived from Rosenborg. The powers that be at the club clearly rate him highly, and weren’t best pleased with him warming the bench in the second tier.
Instead of letting him continue to gather splinters at Boro, City have decided he’ll benefit more from training alongside Kevin De Bruyne and co. under Guardiola’s expert guidance for the remainder of the campaign.
It remains to be seen whether the Norwegian will get a sniff of first-team action this season, but this move suggests City are taking a hands-on approach with a player they’ve invested serious dosh in.
