Como's last-gasp Luis Milla pursuit falls flat as Getafe hold firm

Cesc Fabregas' Como made a deadline day move for Getafe's midfield maestro Luis Milla, but their €7m bid was swiftly rejected as Bordalás refuses to lose his key man.

Getafe have successfully fended off late transfer window interest in midfield orchestrator Luis Milla, with newly-promoted Serie A side Como seeing their advances rebuffed.

Deadline Day Drama

In what could’ve been proper deadline day drama, Cesc Fabregas’ Como made a cheeky last-minute attempt to prize away one of Getafe’s crown jewels. The Italian outfit, clearly looking to bolster their midfield options, identified the 31-year-old Spaniard as their primary target but couldn’t get the deal over the line.

Sources suggest Como tabled an offer in the region of €7 million - a figure that Getafe president Ángel Torres deemed well short of their valuation. The Madrid outfit had reportedly slapped a €10 million price tag on their assist king, making Como’s offer look like small potatoes.

Bordalás’ Untouchable

Beyond the financial aspects, there’s the not-so-small matter of Milla’s importance to José Bordalás’ system. The gaffer considers the midfielder absolutely crucial to Getafe’s survival hopes this season - one of his genuine untouchables in the dressing room.

Milla, who’s currently among Europe’s top assist providers, has been in sparkling form for Los Azulones. His contract runs until June 2027, giving Getafe plenty of breathing space regarding his future.

Financial Balancing Act

What makes this saga particularly interesting is Getafe’s known need to sell players to address their salary cap issues. Despite this financial pressure, the club clearly decided that losing a player of Milla’s calibre mid-season would be cutting off their nose to spite their boat race.

Como’s interest makes perfect sense given Fabregas’ Spanish connections and Milla’s technical profile, but they’ll need to dig deeper into their pockets if they want to revisit this move in the summer.

For now, Getafe fans can breathe easy knowing their midfield maestro isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
