Como's Milla move hits the buffers as Getafe hold firm on deadline day
Cesc Fàbregas' Como made a late push to sign Getafe midfielder Luis Milla, but their €7m bid fell short with Bordalás considering him 'untouchable'.
Italian side Como failed to land Getafe’s assist king Luis Milla despite a deadline day swoop, with the Spanish club standing firm on both valuation and their desire to keep a player deemed essential by manager Bordalás.
Failed Italian Job
Cesc Fàbregas’ ambitious Como side made a proper dog’s dinner of their attempt to sign the 31-year-old Spanish midfielder as the transfer window slammed shut. The newly-promoted Serie A outfit tabled an offer believed to be around €7 million for Milla, who has established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific assist providers this season.
However, Getafe weren’t having any of it. The Madrid-based club had reportedly slapped a €10 million price tag on their creative maestro, making Como’s offer well short of the mark.
Bordalás’ Untouchable
Beyond the financial aspects, there was another massive stumbling block - Getafe gaffer José Bordalás considers Milla absolutely crucial to the team’s survival hopes. The midfielder has been in sparkling form this campaign, pulling the strings in the middle of the park and creating chances galore for his teammates.
Milla’s contract at the Coliseum runs until June 2027, giving Getafe plenty of leverage in any negotiations. Despite being 31, his stock has never been higher thanks to his exceptional creative output.
Financial Balancing Act
While Getafe, headed by president Ángel Torres, do need to sell players to address their salary cap issues, they clearly weren’t desperate enough to part with their midfield dynamo for anything less than top dollar.
Como, who have shown serious ambition since their promotion to Serie A, will now need to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements as they continue their Italian adventure without Milla’s services.
For Getafe fans, keeping hold of their assist merchant will feel like a new signing in itself as they push to secure their top-flight status for another season.
