Mallorca vs Sevilla: Son Moix showdown could be season-defining for both sides

With just three points separating the sides near the drop zone, Sunday's clash in Mallorca represents a massive opportunity for both teams to change their fortunes.

Both sides desperate for three points as they look to put daylight between themselves and the relegation scrap.

Battle at the bottom

Mallorca and Sevilla close out matchday 22 at Son Moix this evening (21:00 CET) with both sides gagging for a win to climb away from the danger zone. Just three points separate the Andalusians from the Balearic outfit, who currently sit in the final relegation spot.

Jagoba Arrasate’s Mallorca lads have hit a proper rough patch since the turn of the year, managing just one win from their last five outings and coming off a defeat at the Metropolitano against Atlético Madrid. Meanwhile, Almeyda’s Sevilla grabbed a much-needed breath of fresh air by beating Athletic Club at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán last time out.

Team news

For the hosts:

  • Morlanes has recovered from his injury
  • Lato returns to the squad after partial training
  • Captain Raíllo makes the squad list but remains a major doubt
  • Albanian defender Kumbulla misses out entirely

Sevilla’s preparation hasn’t been ideal:

  • The team only flew to Palma this morning after technical issues with their aircraft yesterday
  • Gudelj is suspended for this one
  • Mendy and Alexis return to the squad
  • Neal Maupay, their only January signing, is included as the transfer window closes tonight

Form guide

Despite boasting the league’s second-top scorer in Vedat Muriqi, Mallorca’s 2026 has started dismally after going unbeaten throughout December. Sevilla, meanwhile, haven’t won any of their last six away games in LaLiga, but they’ve historically performed well at Son Moix, losing just twice in 18 visits this century.

Strikers in the spotlight

This match features two in-form forwards who could be the difference:

  • Muriqi has been on absolute fire, banging in five goals for Mallorca in January alone, making him one of Europe’s most lethal finishers right now
  • Sevilla’s Akor Adams has returned from the Africa Cup of Nations with his shooting boots on, netting three goals in his two games back

With both sides desperate for points, this has all the makings of a proper six-pointer that could give the winner’s season a much-needed kickstart.
