Tao Paradowski: The keeper with the mysterious name joins Ibiza

UD Ibiza's latest signing brings an intriguing backstory, from his animated TV show namesake to his unusual path from Reunion Island to Spanish football.

A goalkeeper with Polish roots, French international experience, and a name inspired by a Japanese anime character has just signed for UD Ibiza. Not your average transfer story, is it?

The mystery behind the name

Tao Paradowski, born in Saint-Paul on Reunion Island in 2005, has joined Ibiza’s ranks with perhaps the most eye-catching name in Primera RFEF. His first name isn’t just a random choice - it’s a tribute to a hero from the animated series ‘The Mysterious Cities of Gold’. Proper cultured, that.

Ibiza fans will be hoping he lives up to his surname - ‘Para’ in Spanish suggesting he’ll be stopping plenty between the sticks. Bit on the nose for a keeper, innit?

From Reunion Island to Ibiza

Paradowski’s journey to Spanish football is as unique as his name:

  • Started playing in goal at just four years old on Reunion Island
  • Balanced football with judo training in his early years
  • Developed through Nancy’s youth system in France
  • Later moved to Nimes and Pau
  • Recently received call-ups to France’s U20 squad, including a World Cup selection

“I was born with a ball in my hands and my brother Djibril with one at his feet,” Paradowski once explained to Midi Libre, describing how his brother would shoot while he saved.

Breaking the mould

At 1.80m tall, Paradowski doesn’t fit the traditional goalkeeper template. He’s had to battle against height prejudice throughout his development.

“They told me I was too short,” he’s admitted in previous interviews. “It came up every year, but it forged my character.”

Even his footballing inspirations break from convention. Rather than idolizing the usual suspects, he’s a massive fan of Jordan Pickford and - would you Adam and Eve it - supports Everton as his favourite non-French club. He also has a soft spot for Bayern Munich and Marseille.

Now the young keeper with the mysterious name looks to make his mark on the Balearic island, adding another chapter to his already fascinating football story.
