Vecino jets to Vigo to seal Celta deal until 2027
Lazio's Uruguayan midfielder Matías Vecino is set to become Celta Vigo's second winter signing, arriving on an 18-month deal as the transfer window closes.
Celta Vigo are set to bolster their midfield options with the experienced Uruguayan international Matías Vecino, who’s on his way to Galicia to put pen to paper on a deal running until 2027.
Vecino’s arrival
The 34-year-old midfielder is expected to touch down in Vigo this afternoon to complete his move from Lazio. He’ll be signing on for what remains of the current campaign plus the entirety of next season, becoming Celta’s second winter reinforcement following Fer López’s return to the club.
Vecino’s playing time at Lazio has been limited this term, with the Uruguay international clocking just 657 minutes across 14 appearances in all competitions. Not exactly getting a proper look-in, is he?
Midfield reshuffle
The timing makes perfect sense for Celta, who’ve been left short in the middle of the park after losing both Fran Beltrán and Damián during the January window. Vecino brings a wealth of experience to the squad, having enjoyed a lengthy career at the top level.
Outgoings
While Vecino makes his way in, Bryan Zaragoza is heading for the exit door. The club are finalizing his departure to Roma, cutting short his loan spell from Bayern Munich. The deal should see a bit of bread and honey coming Celta’s way, with the Galicians set to receive a small fee as part of the arrangement.
Transfer window closing
With the winter transfer window drawing to a close, Celta aren’t expecting any further movement beyond these two deals. They’ve got their business sorted just in time, and will be hoping Vecino can hit the ground running as they look to secure their position in the table.
