Araujo returns with a bang as Barça battle through to Copa semis

The Uruguayan defender marked his comeback with a goal against Albacete, showing exactly why Barcelona have missed his presence at the back.

Barcelona made hard work of it but managed to book their place in the Copa del Rey semi-finals with Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo stealing the spotlight on his return to the starting XI.

Araujo back to his best

Talk about perfect timing! The charrúa hadn’t started a match since that Chelsea game, which apparently left him in such a state he needed a full month off to get his head straight. Mental health in football is no joke, and it’s good to see a player taking the time needed.

But blimey, what a comeback this was! Araujo didn’t just ease himself back in - he was absolutely on it from the first whistle against Albacete. Commanding at the back and even popping up with Barça’s second goal of the night, he looked like he’d never been away.

Copa progress secured

It wasn’t all plain sailing for the Blaugrana, who had to dig deep at times against an Albacete side that refused to roll over. The hosts made Barcelona work for their semi-final spot, but ultimately the quality difference showed.

Xavi will be delighted to have Araujo back in the fold, especially with this kind of performance. His return couldn’t have come at a better time with the business end of the season approaching and battles on multiple fronts.

What this means for Barcelona

Having a fully fit and mentally refreshed Araujo transforms Barcelona’s defensive options. The Uruguayan brings a physical presence and leadership at the back that they’ve sorely missed during his absence.

With a Copa del Rey semi-final now secured and crucial fixtures coming thick and fast, Barça fans will be hoping this performance is just the beginning of Araujo’s renaissance. If he can maintain this level, he could be the difference-maker in their trophy hunt this season.
