Elche snap up Buba Sangaré on loan from Roma with purchase option
The Spanish right-back returns to his hometown club on a loan deal until the end of the season as Elche secure their fourth winter signing.
Elche have bolstered their defensive options by securing hometown lad Buba Sangaré on loan from AS Roma until the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent.
Local boy returns home
The 18-year-old Spanish-Malian right-back has an interesting connection to Elche, having begun his football journey with local youth side Ilicitano Sporting before moving to Levante’s academy system.
Sangaré’s career has moved at a fair old pace for someone so young. The talented defender made his first-team debut for Levante at just 16 years of age in a Copa del Rey tie, and by January 2024, he’d made his La Liga bow for the Valencia-based outfit.
Roma came calling after that breakthrough season, though the teenager hasn’t managed to crack the first-team squad in the Italian capital yet.
Winter window activity
Elche have been proper busy this January, with Sangaré becoming their fourth winter arrival after:
- Gonzalo Villar
- Tete Morente
- Chilean talent Lucas Cepeda
The right-back slot needed filling after Álvaro Núñez departed for Celta Vigo, and the club’s brass will be chuffed they’ve managed to bring in a promising young talent with local connections.
For Sangaré, it’s a chance to get some regular minutes under his belt in familiar surroundings, while Elche get to evaluate whether he might be worth splashing the cash on permanently come summer.
