Mallorca land Zito Luvumbo on deadline day loan deal from Cagliari

The Balearic club have bolstered their attacking options with the versatile 23-year-old Angolan forward joining until the end of the season from Serie A.

Mallorca have pulled a deadline day rabbit out of the hat by securing the services of Angolan forward Zito Luvumbo on loan from Cagliari until the end of the season.

Deadline Day Drama

Talk about cutting it fine! The Balearic outfit managed to get this deal over the line in the final hours of the transfer window, adding some much-needed firepower to their attacking options. The 23-year-old Angolan international arrives at Son Moix on a short-term loan from Serie A side Cagliari, where he’s struggled for regular minutes this season.

Versatile but Goal-Shy

Luvumbo offers versatility across the front line, though Mallorca supporters might be a touch concerned that he’s yet to find the back of the onion bag this season. The lad’s only started three matches for Cagliari in the current campaign, making 12 Serie A appearances overall plus a couple of run-outs in the Coppa Italia.

Filling a Gap

The signing addresses Mallorca’s priority need for reinforcement on the right wing. Sporting Director Pablo Ortells has been on the hunt for someone in that position throughout January, and Luvumbo ticks that particular box.

Winter Window Wrap-up

Luvumbo becomes Mallorca’s second January acquisition, joining Justin Kalumba who arrived on a permanent deal from French side Angers earlier in the window.

In other squad movements:

  • Midfielder Jan Salas returns to the club after his loan spell at Segunda División side Córdoba, where he saw limited action
  • Canadian forward Cyle Larin has cut short his loan at Feyenoord to join Southampton in the Premier League, moving on another loan deal with a purchase option

With these bits of business done and dusted, Mallorca will hope they’ve done enough to give themselves the best chance of climbing the table in the second half of the season. The new boy will be looking to make an immediate impact and find that elusive first goal of the campaign.
