Mallorca snap up pacy Angolan forward Zito Luvumbo on deadline day loan

The Balearic club have strengthened their attacking options with Cagliari's versatile 23-year-old forward joining until the end of the season.

Mallorca have pulled a deadline day rabbit out of the hat with the loan signing of Angolan forward Zito Luvumbo from Serie A side Cagliari until the end of the season.

Versatile attacker joins the Islanders

The 23-year-old arrives at Son Moix looking to kickstart his season after struggling for regular minutes in Italy. Luvumbo, who can operate across the entire frontline, has made just three starts for Cagliari in the 2025/26 campaign, featuring in 12 Serie A matches and two Coppa Italia ties.

The Angolan hasn’t found the back of the net yet this term, but his versatility appears to have been the key factor for Mallorca’s sporting directors, who were particularly keen to strengthen their right wing options during this transfer window.

Winter window wrap-up

Luvumbo becomes Mallorca’s second January acquisition following the permanent signing of Justin Kalumba from French side Angers. The Balearic outfit have been busy sorting their squad for the business end of the season:

  • Midfielder Jan Salas returns from his loan spell at Segunda División side Córdoba, where he struggled for playing time
  • Canadian striker Cyle Larin has cut short his loan at Feyenoord to join Southampton in the Premier League, with the English club securing an option to buy in the summer

Looking for impact

The addition of Luvumbo gives Mallorca’s attack some much-needed pace and flexibility. While his goalscoring record this season won’t set pulses racing, the change of scenery could be just what the doctor ordered for the Angolan international.

For a deadline day deal, this has all the hallmarks of a shrewd bit of business from Los Bermellones. If Luvumbo can find his feet in La Liga, he might just be the difference between mid-table mediocrity and pushing for something more substantial. The proof will be in the pudding, as they say in the East End.
