Granada's defensive transformation has rivals hitting a brick wall

From leaking goals to becoming a defensive fortress, Granada's metamorphosis under Pacheta has seen them concede just once in their last four matches.

Granada have gone from defensive sieve to impenetrable fortress, with just one goal conceded in their last 360 minutes of football.

From leaky to rock-solid

The Andalusian side’s defensive transformation this season has been nothing short of remarkable. They started the campaign shipping goals like there was no tomorrow – 12 in their first five matches, averaging a painful 2.4 goals conceded per game. Talk about having a mare!

But what we’re seeing now is a proper different kettle of fish. Pacheta seems to have found the secret formula, turning Granada into an absolute nightmare for opposing attackers. The numbers tell the story:

  • Just 16 goals conceded in their last 19 matches (0.8 per game)
  • One solitary goal allowed in their last four outings
  • Three clean sheets in their last four matches

It’s like they’ve built a brick wall in front of Luca Zidane’s goal – and opponents are getting proper frustrated trying to break it down.

Shutting down the big boys

What makes this defensive renaissance even more impressive is that they’ve managed to silence some of Segunda División’s most prolific attacking sides.

Racing Santander arrived at Los Cármenes in red-hot form with 50 goals to their name and having scored in every league match of the season. That run came to a screeching halt against Granada, with Racing’s attackers completely nullified.

Castellón, another of the division’s free-scoring sides, also couldn’t find a way through Granada’s defensive structure.

Pacheta’s masterplan

The transformation hasn’t happened overnight. It’s been a gradual process, with Pacheta methodically addressing the defensive frailties that plagued the team early in the season.

The team now looks organized, disciplined, and incredibly difficult to break down. Where opponents once found gaps with ease, they now face a compact unit that gives nothing away cheaply.

If Granada can maintain this defensive solidity while finding goals at the other end, they’ll be giving themselves every chance of climbing the table and pushing for promotion back to La Liga.
