Lamine Yamal on a tear as Barça march into Copa semis
Barcelona's teenage sensation continues his blistering 2026 form with another decisive performance to help the Catalans reach the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
Barcelona’s wonderkid is in the form of his life as the Catalan giants continue their march on all fronts this season.
Yamal can’t stop, won’t stop
The numbers don’t lie, do they? Barcelona’s 18-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal is absolutely cooking right now. The lad from Rocafonda has started 2026 in ridiculous form, proving instrumental as Barça secured their 62nd Copa del Rey semi-final appearance with victory in Albacete.
What’s most impressive about the youngster’s current purple patch:
- Four consecutive scoring games across three different competitions
- Goals against Albacete (Copa), Elche (La Liga), Copenhagen (Champions League) and Oviedo (La Liga)
- Assists against Copenhagen and Real Sociedad
- Also scored against Racing Santander in the Copa Round of 16
You’d have to go back to a certain Leo Messi to find the last Barça player who put together a similar scoring streak. Not bad company to keep, is it?
The complete package
The stats are proper tasty - 14 goals and 12 assists in all competitions so far. Only Ferran Torres has more goals for Barcelona this season, while no one comes close to matching Yamal’s creativity with those dozen assists.
It’s no wonder everyone at the club is waxing lyrical about him:
- Joan Laporta (president): “Lamine is a genius”
- Deco (sporting director): “He’s enjoying himself again. He has that spark back”
- Gerard Martín (teammate): “He’s a world-class player”
No rest for the wicked
Despite Hansi Flick rotating his squad for the trip to Albacete’s Carlos Belmonte stadium, there was no rest for young Yamal, who played the full 90 minutes. The German gaffer justified his decision by simply stating: “He’s in top form.”
And who could argue? The teenager has been central to Barcelona’s impressive campaign on all fronts - Supercopa champions, La Liga leaders, Champions League progression secured, and now Copa del Rey semi-finalists.
After dealing with some pubic discomfort earlier in the season, Yamal is back to his brilliant best. The boy’s showing no signs of slowing down, and at this rate, he might just help Barcelona to a trophy or three this season. Proper Bobby Dazzler, this one.
