Córdoba's January transfer window: Positive vibes and ambitious plans as blanquiverdes strengthen squad
Córdoba CF complete three winter signings, retain key players despite interest, and prepare for contract renewals while CEO refuses to limit ambitions to just playoff spot.
Córdoba CF have emerged from the January transfer window with reinforcements in place and their ambitions firmly intact, as club executives reveal plans for continued growth both on and off the pitch.
Winter Window Activity
The blanquiverdes concluded a productive January by securing three new additions:
- Diego Percan
- Trilli
- Mikel Goti
Meanwhile, Víctor Sánchez was sent on loan to Marbella in Primera Federación, while Carlos Isaac departed for Polish side Widzew Lodz and Jan Salas returned to Mallorca.
CEO Antonio Fernández Monterrubio believes the new signings “give more alternatives and improve squad competitiveness” - leaving the team with 26 players at their disposal. That’s slightly more than initially planned after a proposed move for Obolskii to Cultural Leonesa couldn’t be completed “in time and proper form,” according to sporting director Juanito.
Financial Muscle
The Segunda División outfit has significantly strengthened their financial position compared to this time last season:
- Salary cap increased to €10.2 million (up 33% from €7.7m last year)
- Projected budget of €20 million for 2025-26 season
- Aiming for second consecutive profitable year
This represents a proper transformation for a club that was “losing €5 million annually for five consecutive years” while playing in Primera Federación not long ago. Talk about a right old turnaround!
Contract Renewals on the Agenda
The club isn’t resting on its laurels, with contract talks already underway. First priority is securing the sporting leadership team, with negotiations ongoing with Juanito himself and technical secretary Raúl Cámara.
Discussions have also begun with several players whose contracts expire in June, though some already have extension clauses based on appearances or objectives. The club is particularly keen to extend Adrián Fuentes’ deal beyond its current terms, potentially until 2027.
Ambitions Unbridled
When asked if he’d be satisfied with just making the playoffs, Monterrubio’s response was telling: “In sporting terms, I’m not settling for anything.”
The CEO made it crystal clear they’re aiming high: “We’re going to fight for the maximum. The club, the squad, and everyone around it will try. I say we need to reach 50 points as soon as possible, and from there…”
With the squad now strengthened and finances in order, Córdoba are certainly not looking to make up the numbers in Segunda División’s promotion race. The Andalusian side have got their ducks in a row and are ready to have a proper go at it.
