Del Nido Carrasco in hot water: Sevilla president faces court over boardroom battle with father

The ongoing Sevilla FC power struggle intensifies as current president Del Nido Carrasco testifies in court following allegations of corporate misconduct from his father.

The bitter family feud tearing through Sevilla FC’s boardroom has reached new heights with current president José María del Nido Carrasco hauled before the courts on potential corporate crime charges filed by his own father.

Family at war

Del Nido Carrasco appeared before Seville’s 14th Instruction Court on January 27th following criminal proceedings initiated by his father, José María del Nido Benavente, the club’s majority shareholder. Talk about awkward family dinners, eh?

The case centers around the Extraordinary Shareholders’ Meeting held on March 27, 2025, where the elder Del Nido claims he was illegally prevented from voting despite having court-ordered precautionary measures specifically granting him this right. These measures had been issued by Commercial Court No. 2 just three days before the meeting.

This isn’t the first time the father has taken legal action against his son. In fact, this represents just one skirmish in an ongoing boardroom battle that’s seen five previous similar complaints filed and subsequently dismissed.

For this latest investigation, the judge has requested:

  • The notarized minutes of the March 2025 meeting
  • Audiovisual recordings of the proceedings
  • Radio broadcast copies

Bad blood boiling over

The tension between father and son was already at fever pitch before that fateful shareholders’ meeting. Just two days prior, Del Nido Benavente had taken to social media, rallying supporters with a declaration that he’d been granted legal protection to “vote freely” at the upcoming meeting.

He didn’t mince his words either, calling for all Sevilla supporters to unite in ousting his son and José Castro Carmona to “prevent them from completely ruining Sevilla Football Club.” Proper family business, this – makes the Mitchells from EastEnders look like the Brady Bunch!

When his voting rights were ultimately denied at what was remarkably the eighth shareholders’ meeting in less than two years, the former president headed straight to the duty court to report what he considered a crime of disobedience to judicial authority by his son.

The current boardroom appears to maintain its position thanks to backing from the club’s American investors, represented by Juan de Dios Crespo.
