Font demands postal voting and Catalan-wide polling stations for Barça elections

Víctor Font's 'Nosaltres' platform calls for modernised voting system ahead of March elections, challenging Laporta's board to ensure maximum member participation.

Víctor Font is pushing for a democratic revolution in Barcelona’s upcoming presidential elections, demanding postal voting and polling stations across Catalonia to boost member participation.

Democracy in focus

Font’s ‘Nosaltres’ (meaning ‘Us’ in Catalan) platform has formally requested the current Barça board implement several measures to ensure the March 15th elections are as accessible as possible. They’re proper adamant about bringing the club’s electoral system into the 21st century, with transparency being the name of the game.

Jaume Guardiola, one of the platform’s leading voices, reckons Barça should be “an example of democracy” - can’t argue with that, can you? The group’s proposals include:

  • Reinstating postal voting (which was available in the last election)
  • Setting up polling stations throughout Catalonia, not just in Barcelona
  • Increasing the number of voting locations compared to previous elections

This ain’t just a minor tweak - it’s a full-on challenge to the current board. Reading between the lines, Font’s lot seem worried that Laporta might use his position to gain an unfair advantage.

Match day voting proposal

In a particularly interesting twist, ‘Nosaltres’ has suggested that if the Barça-Sevilla La Liga match coincides with election day on March 15th, tickets should be reserved exclusively for club members at reduced prices.

Guardiola was crystal clear on this point, insisting the stadium “must be filled with members” rather than tourists or other groups. It’s a proper Bobby Moore of an idea (that’s “sure” in Cockney) to boost both voter turnout and member engagement in one fell swoop.

Neutrality demands

The platform hasn’t stopped there. They’ve also called for:

  • Fair mechanisms to ensure all electoral platforms can reach club members
  • Complete neutrality from official club channels during the campaign
  • Separation between Laporta’s presidential duties and campaign activities

Guardiola didn’t mince his words about the current president, warning that using club resources for campaign propaganda would be neither ethical nor serious.

With the elections just over a month away, Font’s early positioning suggests we’re in for a proper battle for the soul of Barcelona. The democracy debate might seem like admin, but it could determine who holds the keys to Camp Nou.
