Gnabry pens new Bayern deal until 2028: 'Never imagined I'd be here a decade'

The German winger extends his stay at the Bavarian giants as Bayern secure another key player amidst several contract negotiations this summer.

Serge Gnabry has committed his future to Bayern Munich, signing a fresh contract that keeps him at the Allianz Arena until 2028, ensuring the German international will rack up over a decade of service at the Bavarian giants.

Bayern’s contract business

With Leon Goretzka already announcing his intention to leave, Bayern have been busy sorting their contract situation this summer. Several key players including Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich, Raphaël Guerreiro and Dayot Upamecano have been on the negotiation table.

Gnabry, who joined from Werder Bremen in 2017 for a modest £7 million, has become the first domino to fall, putting pen to paper on a deal that will take him into his thirties at the club.

‘Pillar of the team’

Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl was proper chuffed with securing Gnabry’s services, highlighting the 30-year-old’s importance:

“He’s one of the fundamental pillars of this team, both on the pitch and in the dressing room,” Eberl stated, emphasizing how Gnabry’s hunger for more success despite winning everything makes him a role model.

Christoph Freund, Bayern’s sporting director, also praised the winger’s qualities:

  • Versatility in attack
  • Pace and skill on the ball
  • Excellent goalscoring ability

Gnabry’s Bayern journey

After joining from Bremen, Gnabry spent his first season on loan at Hoffenheim before establishing himself as a Bayern regular. The Stuttgart-born attacker has been absolutely mustard for the German champions, racking up impressive numbers:

  • 100 goals
  • 69 assists
  • 311 appearances

The man who now wears the number 7 shirt expressed his delight at extending his stay: “When I started here, I never would have imagined that I’d be at the club for more than ten years at the end of this contract.”

Gnabry added that his goal is to maintain the status quo, emphasizing the team’s unity and potential to achieve greatness together.

Talk about a proper bit of business from the Bavarians - securing one of their most consistent performers while they sort out the rest of their contract situation is no small potatoes.
