Kareem Tunde: The Third Division gem lighting up Levante's season
How Levante's surprise package Kareem Tunde is making the remarkable leap from Spain's third tier to La Liga look like a walk in the park.
From Spanish third division to La Liga starter in the blink of an eye - Kareem Tunde is taking it all in his stride at Levante with a refreshing approach to his meteoric rise.
Rapid rise through the ranks
Sometimes football throws up a proper diamond in the rough, and Levante seem to have unearthed exactly that in Kareem Tunde. The young Catalan winger has become one of Luís Castro’s most trusted lieutenants in recent weeks, showing remarkable composure despite making the enormous leap from Spain’s third tier to La Liga.
What’s most striking about Tunde is his down-to-earth attitude. While many youngsters might get carried away with such a dramatic career acceleration, he’s keeping his plates firmly on the ground.
“I just focus on being myself and working hard for the team,” says the humble wide man, in what appears to be his footballing mantra.
Playing style that excites
Tunde describes himself as an “electronic player” - a curious Spanish expression that hints at his explosive, high-energy style. He’s clearly most comfortable hugging the touchline, where he can use his pace and power to terrorise defenders.
“I like staying wide. That’s where I can do the most damage - with runs in behind, one-v-ones, and using my power,” he explains.
This versatility extends to his defensive contributions too, making him the complete modern winger that managers dream about. Castro has clearly given him the confidence to express himself, asking his young charges to “be brave” and, most importantly, “be themselves”.
Youth partnership flourishing
Levante’s commitment to youth development is paying dividends, with Tunde forming a particularly fruitful partnership with fellow youngster Paco. The chemistry between them extends beyond the pitch.
“Playing with Paco is a pleasure. We have a good relationship off the pitch and when we’re on it, we have great understanding,” Tunde reveals.
Contract situation
Now in his fourth season at Levante (mostly in the youth ranks), questions about a contract extension were met with the same level-headed approach that characterises everything about Tunde.
He’s leaving the business side to his agents while he focuses on the bread and butter - performing on the pitch. It’s this attitude that has Levante fans believing they’ve got a proper Bobby Dazzler on their hands.
Athletic Club challenge ahead
Looking ahead to their clash with Athletic Club, Tunde insists Levante will maintain their brave, pressing approach - a philosophy that’s serving them well as they navigate the choppy waters of La Liga.
With goals, work-rate and explosivity in his locker, Kareem Tunde is quickly becoming the name on every Levante supporter’s lips. From third division obscurity to La Liga stardom - it’s the football fairytale that never gets old.
