Toché bullish on Albacete's prospects after transfer window closes
Albacete's sporting director discusses the club's improved squad, commitment to youth development, and ambitions following their recent cup heroics against Madrid giants.
Albacete’s sporting director believes the club can still make waves in the second division after strengthening their squad in January.
Post-transfer window confidence
With the winter transfer window now firmly shut, Albacete sporting director Toché has been sharing his thoughts on the club’s current state of affairs. The Segunda División outfit have been in the spotlight recently after their stunning Copa del Rey victory over Real Madrid and their valiant showing against Barcelona.
“This team still has much to say in what remains of the league,” Toché declared, reflecting the growing confidence at the Estadio Carlos Belmonte.
Squad improvements
Toché believes Albacete have emerged from the January window in a stronger position:
- The club now has “a better team than in December” according to the director
- New arrivals bring “excitement and hunger” to the squad
- Departing players leave with the club’s gratitude for their contributions
- The bench is now “super competitive with everyone plugged in”
Relationship with the manager
The sporting director was quick to emphasize his strong working relationship with head coach Alberto:
“We are one unit, my dealings with him are daily, my trust is total and between the two of us we make a good team,” Toché explained.
This partnership appears to be bearing fruit, with Albacete currently boasting three more points than at the same stage last season. Despite some critics labeling him as “too positive,” Toché remains adamant that the team will “fight to be at the top.”
Financial stability and youth development
Albacete’s recent cup exploits have boosted their finances, but Toché stressed they won’t be splashing the cash recklessly. Instead, the money will provide stability and allow for internal improvements.
The club is also doubling down on youth development, with homegrown talents Capi and Dani secured on long-term contracts until 2027 and 2028 respectively. There’s even talk of improved terms for both players down the line.
Looking ahead
With the squad now settled until summer, Toché’s message to the Albacete faithful was simple: “Keep enjoying and we won’t let you down.”
For a club that’s been mixing it with Spain’s elite in cup competition while maintaining solid league form, there’s plenty of reason for optimism in La Mancha. Not half bad for a side that was playing in the third tier just a couple of seasons ago.
