Calero warns Las Palmas: 'Burgos are organised and ready to pounce'
Burgos manager Julián Calero talks tactics ahead of their crucial clash with Las Palmas, with just one point separating the promotion hopefuls in the table.
Two promotion contenders separated by a single point meet at the Gran Canaria Stadium this weekend, with Burgos boss Julián Calero fancying his chances against a Las Palmas side he’s never lost to.
Tactical chess match looms
Calero, who’s won both his previous visits to the Canary Islands, expects a classic clash of styles when these two Segunda División heavyweights collide.
“Las Palmas will want possession with their technically gifted players, while Burgos will wait for them in an organised, disciplined manner,” Calero explained, setting up what promises to be a proper Bobby Dazzler of a tactical battle.
Despite the contrasting approaches, Calero rates both sides as equals in terms of quality: “They’re a rival with similar potential to Las Palmas, capable of anything. They’re competitive with very important collective work.”
Former keeper could face old club
José Antonio Caro, now at Las Palmas after leaving Burgos, might face his former teammates this weekend. Despite limited playing time in the Canaries, Calero holds his former shot-stopper in high regard:
“He’s a very agile keeper with top-level footwork. When he’s stable, secure and confident, his level is very high.”
The Burgos manager also sent a pointed message to his former player: “I hope when his moment comes, it doesn’t catch him by surprise. The alarm clock eventually rings, and when it does, you need to be ready.”
Promotion race heating up
While acknowledging the teams’ different footballing philosophies, Calero believes both approaches can be equally effective in the promotion hunt.
With the business end of the season approaching, the Burgos boss is anticipating drama: “We’re expecting a beautiful final stretch, as always in LaLiga Hypermotion. Fans should prepare their hearts – they’re going to need pacemakers!”
The clash at Gran Canaria Stadium could prove crucial in the race for La Liga, with both sides looking to strengthen their promotion credentials.
