Copa del Rey final date confirmed: April 18-19 weekend at La Cartuja

Spanish football authorities have set the Copa del Rey final for mid-April, moving it forward to avoid clashing with Seville's famous spring fair.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed the Copa del Rey final will take place on either Saturday April 18th or Sunday April 19th at Seville’s La Cartuja stadium, with the exact day to be finalised next week.

Date moved forward

The showpiece final has been brought forward by a week from the originally planned April 25th date, primarily due to security concerns as it would have clashed with Seville’s famous spring fair (Feria de Sevilla).

The final decision between Saturday or Sunday will be made following discussions between:

  • The Spanish Football Federation
  • The Royal House (Casa Real)
  • The Andalusian government

While Saturday appears the preferred option for all parties, we’ll have to wait until next week for the official confirmation of the exact day.

League schedule adjustment

La Liga has already responded to this announcement by confirming that matchday 32 of the domestic season will be moved to the weekend of April 25-26, ensuring no fixture congestion for the finalists.

Road to the final

With Athletic Bilbao, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad still battling in the semi-finals, the Andalusian capital is preparing to host another massive cup final at La Cartuja, which has become the traditional venue for Spain’s domestic cup final in recent years.

The first legs of the semi-finals have already delivered some proper drama, with all to play for in the return fixtures as teams chase that coveted spot in the April showdown.
