Copa del Rey Semi-Final Dates Revealed: Barça-Atleti and Basque Derby Set for February Kickoff

Spanish FA confirms schedule for Copa del Rey semi-finals with Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao vs Real Sociedad ties to be played over two legs in February and March.

Spanish football’s premier cup competition has its semi-final schedule locked in, with two mouthwatering ties set to unfold across February and March.

Semi-Final Schedule Confirmed

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially announced the dates and kick-off times for the Copa del Rey semi-finals, with all matches scheduled for 21:00 local time.

The first leg between Atlético Madrid and Barcelona will take place on Thursday, February 12th, with the return fixture at the Camp Nou set for Tuesday, March 3rd.

Meanwhile, the all-Basque affair between Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad will begin on Wednesday, February 11th at San Mamés, with the second leg in San Sebastián scheduled for Wednesday, March 4th.

LaLiga Fixture Changes

These cup commitments have forced LaLiga to shuffle its deck, with several league matches affected:

  • Rayo Vallecano vs Atlético Madrid has been moved to Sunday, February 15th at 16:15
  • Getafe vs Villarreal will now be played on Saturday, February 14th at 16:15

The Road to Seville

With four of Spain’s most prestigious clubs still in the hunt, this year’s Copa del Rey is shaping up to be a proper Bobby Dazzler. The winners of these two-legged ties will advance to the final, where they’ll battle for the trophy at Seville’s La Cartuja Stadium.

Athletic Club are looking to add to their impressive 24 Copa titles, while Barcelona aim to extend their record as the competition’s most successful club. Atlético Madrid last won the cup in 2013, and Real Sociedad ended their 34-year wait for the trophy in 2020.

For the neutral, it’s hard to pick which tie is more enticing - Simeone vs Xavi in a tactical chess match, or a fiery Basque derby with regional pride at stake. Either way, Spanish football fans are in for a treat.
