Disaster for Racing: Manex Lozano's season over after ACL tear
The Athletic Club loanee suffers devastating knee injury in training, requiring surgery and ending his campaign with Racing Santander prematurely.
Racing Santander have been dealt a proper kick in the teeth with news that January loan signing Manex Lozano has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a morning training session at El Sardinero.
Injury Details
The forward, who only arrived on loan from Athletic Club during the winter transfer window, underwent medical imaging tests which confirmed the devastating diagnosis. The tests were arranged through ASISA, Racing’s healthcare provider.
Lozano will require surgery, and while his recovery timeline will depend on post-operation progress, one thing’s crystal clear - his 2025-26 season is well and truly brown bread.
Manager’s Concerns
Racing boss José Alberto had already expressed his worries about the injury in a press conference, noting: “It happened on his own during a play. He felt his knee give way.”
The gaffer’s fears have unfortunately been realized in the worst possible way, with the Navarre-born forward now facing the long, arduous road to recovery that comes with ACL injuries.
Impact on Racing’s Campaign
- Racing lose a potentially valuable attacking option for their Segunda División campaign
- The club will now need to rely on existing forward options to fill the void
- Athletic Club will be monitoring their loanee’s recovery closely
This represents a cruel blow for both the player and Racing Santander, with Lozano barely having time to make his mark at the Cantabrian club before this devastating setback.
