Sellés buzzing as Zaragoza's winter window delivers the goods

Real Zaragoza boss Rubén Sellés expresses satisfaction with six January signings as he looks to restore the club's fortunes with new tactical options.

Zaragoza manager Rubén Sellés has declared himself chuffed with the club’s January transfer business, suggesting nearly all new arrivals could feature in tomorrow’s clash against Eibar.

Winter window wisdom

Though initially reluctant to oversee a complete January overhaul, Sellés now seems well pleased with the six new faces that have arrived at the Aragonese outfit. The gaffer reckons these reinforcements give him the proper tools to get Zaragoza back on track.

“The club has made an effort,” Sellés noted, clearly satisfied with the backing he’s received from upstairs. Only Agada appears to need more time to reach full fitness after a period of inactivity, while the remaining signings are all in contention to start immediately.

Injury concerns mounting

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows in the treatment room, mind:

  • Dani Gómez is struggling with discomfort
  • Bakis remains doubtful for tomorrow’s match
  • Insua awaits test results

These setbacks mean we’ll likely see a reshuffled starting eleven against Eibar, though Sellés remains confident his side can still do the business against their Segunda División rivals.

Familiar faces and tactical flexibility

One of the more interesting additions is Juan Larios, a player Sellés has previous with. The gaffer gave his immediate approval for the signing and even rang the lad personally to explain the project. Despite their history, Larios will need to earn his spot like everyone else.

Sellés also sang the praises of Francho, describing him as a “universal player” capable of slotting in anywhere on the pitch – proper handy that.

Tactical teases

While keeping his cards close to his chest regarding formation, Sellés hinted at potential tactical tweaks:

  • Possibility of playing with two strikers
  • Alternative option of deploying a false nine
  • Soberón could make another start

The manager emphasized that climbing away from the lower reaches of the table would require both improved footballing quality and competitive spirit, adding they cannot afford another shapeless performance like the one in Albacete.

With these new additions in the old onion bag, Zaragoza fans will be hoping their team can finally turn the corner in what’s been a right pig’s ear of a season so far.
