Triple boost for Sevilla as Azpilicueta, Gudelj and Nianzou return for crucial Girona clash
Sevilla receive welcome injury boost ahead of vital relegation six-pointer against Girona, with three key players returning to Almeyda's squad.
Sevilla’s battle against relegation receives a timely boost with three key players returning to the squad for Friday evening’s crucial six-pointer against fellow strugglers Girona at the Sánchez-Pizjuán.
Squad reinforcements
Matías Almeyda has named a 25-man squad for the match, with the welcome return of:
- César Azpilicueta - back after recovering from injury
- Tanguy Nianzou - also returning from the treatment room
- Nemanja Gudelj - available again after serving his suspension during the Mallorca trip
The Argentine gaffer will need to trim his selection to 23 before kick-off, but having these experienced heads back in contention gives him proper options for what’s shaping up to be a proper relegation dogfight.
Injury absentees
It’s not all rosy for the Andalusians though, as several players remain sidelined:
- Castrín
- Marcao
- Adnan Januzaj
- Vargas
The situation with Marcao is particularly significant, as the Brazilian’s long-term injury led to him being deregistered by the club. This administrative move created the space for Antonio Cordón to bring in winter reinforcement Neal Maupay, who’s included in tomorrow’s squad.
Full squad
The complete 25-man list features: Odysseas, Nyland, Rafa Romero, Juanlu, Carmona, Azpilicueta, Cardoso, Gattoni, Kike Salas, Nianzou, Suazo, Oso, Gudelj, Jordán, Agoumé, Manu Bueno, Mendy, Sow, Ejuke, Miguel Sierra, Peque, Alexis, Isaac, Akor and Maupay.
With both sides in a right two and eight around the relegation zone, tomorrow’s 18:30 clash could be absolutely massive for Sevilla’s hopes of maintaining their top-flight status.
