Arias Cuts Premier League Nightmare Short with Palmeiras Switch
Colombian winger Jhon Arias has ended his brief Wolves stint by joining Brazilian giants Palmeiras in a deal worth over €20 million after just six months in England.
Colombian international Jhon Arias has made a swift exit from Wolverhampton Wanderers, joining Brazilian powerhouse Palmeiras in a deal worth north of €20 million after just half a season in the Premier League.
Brief Wolves Spell
The 28-year-old attacker arrived at Molineux last summer with high expectations but departs having made only 26 appearances for the struggling West Midlands outfit. During his short stint in England, Arias managed just two goals - one against West Ham in the Premier League and another versus Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup.
Wolves confirmed the departure with a brief statement: “We thank Jhon for all his efforts at Wolves and wish him the best in Brazil.”
Back to Familiar Territory
The move represents a return to Brazilian football for Arias, who’s no stranger to the Brasileirão. Before his English adventure, he spent four successful years at Fluminense between 2021 and 2025, where he established himself as a crucial player for the Rio de Janeiro side.
His time at Fluminense was decorated with silverware, most notably:
- Copa Libertadores triumph in 2023
- Several other domestic honours
Failed European Adventure
Arias’ European dream quickly turned into a bit of a nightmare, truth be told. His move to Wolves coincided with one of the club’s worst Premier League campaigns in recent memory. The Old Gold currently sit rock bottom of the table with just a solitary win from 24 matches - proper dog’s dinner of a season.
For Palmeiras, this represents quite the coup. They’ve added a proven South American talent to their ranks as they look to compete with continental rivals like Filipe Luís’ Flamengo for supremacy.
