LaLiga announces Matchday 26 schedule: Seville derby on Sunday, Real Madrid play Monday night

LaLiga's Matchday 26 schedule features the Seville derby on Sunday evening, while Real Madrid host Getafe in a Monday night clash at the Bernabéu.

LaLiga has finally sorted the fixture list for Matchday 26, with the Seville derby and a Monday night Madrid match as the standout fixtures.

Full weekend schedule

The action kicks off on Friday, 27 February with Levante hosting Alavés at the Ciutat de València (21:00). But the real meat and potatoes comes later in the weekend.

Saturday’s schedule is particularly interesting as it features all four Copa del Rey semi-finalists, who’ll be gearing up for their second leg ties the following week:

  • 14:00 - Rayo Vallecano vs Athletic Club
  • 16:15 - Barcelona vs Villarreal
  • 18:30 - Mallorca vs Real Sociedad
  • 21:00 - Oviedo vs Atlético Madrid

Sunday showdowns

Sunday’s fixtures build toward what promises to be a proper barnstormer with the Seville derby. The full lineup:

  • 14:00 - Elche vs Espanyol
  • 16:15 - Valencia vs Osasuna
  • 18:30 - Real Betis vs Sevilla
  • 21:00 - Girona vs Celta Vigo

Monday night football at the Bernabéu

The round wraps up on Monday, 2 March, with Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid welcoming Getafe to the Santiago Bernabéu for a 21:00 kickoff. Not exactly what the doctor ordered for Los Blancos faithful who’ll have to brave the Monday night commute, but that’s modern football for you.

With the Copa del Rey semi-finalists all in action on Saturday, it’s clear the schedule has been arranged with an eye on those crucial cup ties the following week. The separation gives Athletic, Barcelona, Atlético and Mallorca maximum recovery time before they battle for a spot in the final.

Meanwhile, the Seville derby gets its traditional Sunday slot - always a highlight in the Spanish football calendar and sure to be a right Bobby Dazzler of an atmosphere at the Benito Villamarín.
