After having their match against Rayo Vallecano suspended, Real Oviedo’s day went from bad to worse as heavy snowfall delayed their return journey through the mountains.
Double weather whammy
Talk about having a right mare! Oviedo’s squad found themselves in a proper pickle this weekend when their scheduled 2pm clash with Rayo Vallecano was called off just hours before kickoff.
The Asturian side immediately began their journey back home earlier than planned, only to encounter severe weather conditions in the Huerna mountain pass that significantly delayed their return to the Carlos Tartiere stadium.
The club announced via social media that the team’s expected 4pm arrival would be postponed due to the harsh weather conditions affecting their travel route.
Club fuming over suspension
This weather-related travel chaos comes on top of what was already a day of frustration for Oviedo. The club had expressed serious disappointment about the match cancellation, which they felt was handled poorly.
The game was officially suspended at 10:16am when league authorities determined the pitch didn’t meet “necessary guarantees” for safe play. This late decision has clearly rubbed Oviedo up the wrong way.

The club isn’t taking this lying down. Oviedo has announced they’re exploring possible regulatory actions, believing the situation has damaged their interests.
