Ángel Torres backs Bordalás: 'The gaffer's a good bloke'
Getafe president discusses January transfer window efforts, relegation battle concerns, and his relationship with manager José Bordalás ahead of Alavés clash.
Amid swirling rumours of tension at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, Getafe president Ángel Torres has come out swinging in support of manager José Bordalás.
Speaking to Movistar LaLiga before Getafe’s crucial match against Alavés, Torres addressed the club’s January business, their precarious league position, and his supposedly strained relationship with the gaffer.
January transfer window
Torres acknowledged the significant financial commitment made during the winter window, necessitated by an injury crisis that has plagued the Madrid outfit throughout the season.
“We’ve made a great effort because we’ve been carrying six absences for almost the entire season, three of them long-term, and we needed reinforcements,” Torres explained.
While pleased with their business, the president remained grounded, adding: “We’ve done good business in the market, but we’re still Getafe” – a nod to the club’s modest stature compared to La Liga’s big boys.
Relegation concerns
Despite sitting near the drop zone, Torres maintains a level head about Getafe’s prospects:
“Of course you’re worried, but if you look at tenth place, it’s Alavés and they’re only two points ahead of us. There are 10 teams all bunched together, and there’s still plenty of season left.”
That Bordalás relationship
When quizzed about reported tension with Bordalás, Torres was having none of it:
“Quite the opposite. Everyone has their own way of being, their own mum and dad. The gaffer’s a good bloke, he’s doing well, and now we need to support him.”
Torres also delivered some positive team news, revealing that the squad now has 24 registered players, with star striker Borja Mayoral expected to return from injury in approximately 20 days.
With the transfer window closed and injuries clearing up, Getafe’s focus now turns to climbing the table and putting daylight between themselves and the relegation dog fight.
