Barça's 'Dro' makes dream debut for PSG in Le Classique demolition
Former Barcelona youngster Dro impressed in his first PSG appearance during their 5-0 thrashing of Marseille, completing 100% of his passes in a 15-minute cameo.
Former Barcelona wonderkid Dro has wasted no time settling into life at PSG, making his debut in Sunday’s emphatic 5-0 thrashing of Marseille in Le Classique.
Instant impact
The 18-year-old Galician midfielder, who left Barcelona in January much to Hansi Flick’s disappointment, was handed his first appearance for Luis Enrique’s side with 15 minutes remaining in their Ligue 1 clash against Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille.
Despite the brief cameo, Dro’s statistics were absolutely bob on:
- 11/11 passes completed (100%)
- 4/4 duels won
- 1/1 successful dribbles
- 1/1 long passes completed
Not a bad day at the office for the youngster, who replaced fellow prospect Senny Mayulu with the score already at 5-0.
Social media celebration
Both PSG and Dro himself took to social media to celebrate the milestone. The club’s official account welcomed him with “Bienvenido, Dro” alongside heart emojis in the club’s red and blue colors.
The Spain U18 international responded with his own message in French: “Un jour inoubliable. Allez Paris!” (An unforgettable day. Go Paris!)
Barcelona’s pain, PSG’s gain
Dro’s departure from Catalonia was a right kick in the teeth for Barcelona and particularly Flick, who viewed him as a key part of the club’s future. The French giants paid €8.2 million for his services - more than his release clause - and tied him down until 2030.
The attacking midfielder had already made five appearances for Barcelona this season - four in La Liga and one in the Champions League - before making the switch to the French capital.
It’s early days, but PSG supporters will be hoping this brief but impressive debut is just the start for a player Barcelona were desperate to keep. As for Barça fans, seeing another La Masia pearl legging it abroad won’t half sting.
